in other news: I have a bad paper cut on my middle typing finger. I did good on my design test. My math test was a toss up. My journalism test was aced. I still have the lingering of something, maybe salmonella. I met with an awesome model I am looking forward to working with when I can find the time. We put a deposit down on a new place, which is scary and exciting.

One of the recent library picks was Annie Leibovitz Women (I HAVE been on a Leibovitz kick lately). Though I had seen this at least 1/2 a dozen times over the past 10 years, I enjoyed it much more this time around. This particular photo of Joni Mitchell I could.not.get.enough.of. I want it BIG. On my wall. It is actually much larger than this. Horizontal with all sorts of foliage. But the little old scanner could not handle the big ol’ library book.

Also- I still can’t seem to get the categories working right  :\

yesterday after we attempted to get from Sausalito to the ferry building without a map he told me “I am never coming to San Francisco again without an iPhone”. Which means we are getting one sooner rather than later.

*Part 3 in counting my blessings, as previous here and here.

Katie has been in my life almost as long as Becky. We met in Humboldt in 1999 at the coffee shop we both just helped open. Her hair was cropped super short and bleached super blond and she stood out to me, as I must have to her as different from our dread lock hemp wearing co-workers. We quickly found that we were from the same neighborhoods, though different sides of the tracks. At one point, we were lucky enough to live across from each other, separated by an alley. As with most friendships when you are younger, they waxed and waned. I moved a bunch, and sometimes we didn’t talk for long periods at a time. But when we did, we were always able to pick right back up. She visited us in Santa Barbara, we visited them in Corvalis. She was as close to a maid of honor for my wedding I could have had though we didn’t have bridal parties, and I photographed hers. She has helped me through some hard times and supported me through even harder ones. I feel super lucky to have her in my life and super lucky that we have been so close in proximity these past few years as we have grown even closer. She is a wonderful mother, a great wife. She has a great natural beauty and awesome fashion and design sense. I always know I can count on her for a awesome afternoon in nature, a casual dinner or a quiet girls night. Katie is truly a gem and I feel honored that she calls me a friend.

photo: holga, 120 film. December 08. Stanford Mall, Palo Alto CA. Not the *best* photo for someone so AWESOME, but fitting since I lent her the holga and she worked that little plastic camera harder than I did and has collectivley taken one roll of film that is better than this shot or any of the multiple rolls I have.

Ron Mesaros

January 8th, 2009

I go to the library often. Partially because there is a BEAUTIFUL one right down the street from my work, partially because I like to read/look at photo and art books more than I can actually afford to buy them. Since posting my own photos everyday can get repetitive, I will share others with you. I saw this one in a books name I don’t remember, but I think it was at least 20 years old and specific to dark and light. It caught my eye. More than the dog, or the look on her face even. I just couldn’t stop looking. That and either it was taken in Topanga Canyon or he is from/near there, which is near to my childhood. I couldn’t find much online, but the photographers name is Ron Mesaros.

More parts of counting my blessings is my awesome friends (yes this will become a series in which I gush about each one of you as I collect new photos). I often think how lucky I am to not only have such diverse array of close friends, but also how they all bring something different to my life. I know many people, and I am friendly with even more. But I intentionally have very few close friends and I plan on keeping the ones I have forever.

Becky and I have known each other about 12 years- as long as I have known my husband. Her man and my man have been friends even longer than that. The interesting thing about our friendship is that we actually had not come close until the last 6-5 years or so, years after we actually lived in the same town. Maybe it is the way our lives weave in and out, the distance or the time. But I am glad to have her. And I am glad that I get to see her so much. My drinking buddy. My clothes hander-downer (we wear close to the same size!). My fellow dog lover. My tropical vacation taker. So cheers to Becky for being awesome!
